Ireland - Replace a Lost or Misplaced Age Card


Procedure

  1. Apply for your age card online - Link
  2. Pay the 10 fee using a debit or credit card, or an age card voucher which you can purchase in any post office.
  3. Within 3 working days of applying you will receive an application form containing your details.
  4. Bring the application form, along with your photograph, proofs of identity and report on the loss or theft of your original card to your local Garda Station for authentication within 3 months.
  5. The processing Garda will record this on the Garda Pulse System and then forward your application to the Printers.
  6. You will receive your Age Card within 10 working days.


Note: You can track your application online provided you know your 6-digit application form number.





Required Documents

  • Your birth certificate, your passport or your GNIB (Garda National Immigration Bureau) Card
  • One other form of identification
  • One recent passport-sized photograph
  • A credit/debit card or an Age Card voucher (available from any post office)
  • Report on the loss or theft of your original card

You are required to pay online when you are applying for an Age Card. You can do this using a debit or credit card, or an age card voucher which you can purchase in any post office.




Validity

There is no expiry date on your Age Card.

Processing Time

If your age card is lost or stolen you should report the loss to your nearest Garda Station.

The Age Card shows:

  • The Cardholder's name
  • Date of birth
  • A photograph identifying the cardholder
  • Relevant security features (such as a metal hologram, embossed symbol, encoded magnetic stripe, etc.)




Other uses of the Document/Certificate

Age card is a proof of age card and is not an identity card.

The card can only be used to show you have reached the legal age for purchasing alcohol. It should not be obtained or used for any other purpose.
