If you have entered Iraq under an NOC, you can apply for a temporary Driving License until your Residency procedures are completed AND you have your Civil I.D. after which, a Full License can be obtained, this takes about 2 months. So you should apply for a 2- month temporary Driving License.

1. You have to get a translation of your foreign driver license. The translation should be attested this can be done in Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. Also make sure you get a photocopy of your driver license.
3. You could do all the above mentioned in the embassy and you and at the same time, you can register at the Embassy as a citizen of your respective country, residing in Iraq (eg - U.K. citizen residing in Iraq).
4. The next step is to obtain an Application form from a Police Traffic Department in the area where you live.
5. Please fill in the application form for getting a Iraq driver license.
6. Submit the application forms in the Director of Traffic Department or Traffic department office in your area for further processing.
7. After completing this process, you will be provided with a 2 month driver license. The permanent License is only obtainable when you have got your Residency and Civil I.D., an eyesight test (in addition to the one you will need for your Residency) and a Blood Group Certificate.

• You can drive in Iraq under an International Driver License, if you have arrived on a Visit/Business Visa but NOT an NOC. The International License must be insured and only lasts the length of your Visa, normally 1 month.
