Instructions

[edit]

  • If the applicant accepts firearms in pawn, don't include information about any firearms that were redeemed by the person who gave the firearm.
  • The firearm must, however, be reported if it was forfeited by the individual who pawned it.

Required Information

[edit]

The information needed to be filled in the application form are listed below:

  • Trade Name
  • Federal Firearms License (FFL) Number
  • Reporting Period
  • Manufacturer
  • Importer
  • Model
  • Serial Number
  • Firearm Type
  • Caliber/Gauge
  • Acquisition Date

Need for the Document

[edit]

  • Laws requiring gun owners to report firearms are designed to help prevent gun trafficking and straw purchases (in which a legitimate buyer makes a purchase on behalf of a prohibited buyer), as well as to ensure that prohibited possessors do not gain access to firearms.
  • Federal firearms licensees (FFLs) to send a report to ATF when there is a sale of firearms to the same purchaser within a certain time period. ATF uses the information gathered from multiple sales transactions to investigate possible firearms trafficking cases.

Information which might help

[edit]

  • The initial reporting period is specified in the ATF letter, but if it is not specified, it must be at least 12 months prior to the ATF letter's date.
  • Going forward from the date of the ATF letter, follow-up reporting periods are quarterly.
  • The licensee must continue to submit quarterly reports until an ATF official instructs them to stop in writing.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

[edit]

  • This application is also necessary for future reporting periods.
