Vision Screening
Vision screening test measures the applicant's visual ability.
You must pass Indiana's minimum vision standards to get a license or permit, even if you are renewing your existing license or permit. In case an applicant does not meet state standards they will be referred to an eye doctor for an eye examination.

Knowledge Examination
The knowledge examination is based on information contained in the Indiana driver's manual. To pass the knowledge examination, you must demonstrate a basic understanding of Indiana traffic laws and safe driving techniques. Knowledge examinations include multiple choice questions concerning traffic maneuvers and knowledge of types of traffic signs.
You do not need to schedule an appointment for a knowledge examination unless you need to have the test read to you. You must arrive at a license branch at least one hour before the branch closes in order to take the knowledge examination that day.

Motorcycle Skills Test
You must provide the motorcycle used for the motorcycle skills test and must wear a motorcycle helmet during the operational skills test.
The motorcycle skills test measures an applicants basic control of the motorcycle and response to hazardous situations.

To add a motorcycle endorsement to your valid Indiana driver's license, you must hold a motorcycle learner's permit and pass a motorcycle skills test or complete a Motorcycle Operator Safety Education course.
MC Endorsement on Operator's License & CDL:
Your Indiana motorcycle endorsement is valid for the period of validity of your operators, chauffeurs, public passenger chauffeurs or commercial drivers license.
Renewal of motorcycle endorsement may be done one year before the license expires. If you are less than 18 years old when you get your license, you must renew your license on or before your 21st birthday.

Motorcycle Operator Safety Education Course Program
This program will teach you how to ride a motorcycle or improve your current riding skills and knowledge. The program is administered through and courses are conducted by BMV-approved contractors. A standard curriculum is taught at all training sites by rider coaches who are nationally certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and meet the additional requirements of the state program.
To apply for a motorcycle endorsement, visit a license branch, provide proof that you have passed a motorcycle driving skills test or BMV-approved Indiana Motorcycle Operator Safety Education Course, and pass a standard vision screening test.
If you pass the motorcycle skills test on a MDC - Class A, the Restriction A will also be added to your drivers license.
If you are holding a motorcycle learners permit and you failed the motorcycle driving skills tests three times, you must wait two months from the date of the last failed skills test before taking it again.
If you do not currently hold a valid motorcycle learners permit, the motorcycle knowledge and skills tests may be waived for the motorcycle endorsement if you have successfully completed an approved Indiana Motorcycle Operator Safety Education Course.
If you are less than 18 years old when you apply for a motorcycle endorsement, you must have a parent or guardian sign an agreement of financial liability. You can download a form by clicking the link provided on the 'Documents to Use' section.
To those who already have a valid Indiana driver's license, you may add an "L" endorsement to your license allowing you to operate a motorcycle or Class A motor driven cycle.
