Gibraltar - Obtain a Certificate of Registration (Vehicle Registration)


Procedure

1.) The Vehicle must meet the required legal standards.

2.) Once it is determined that the vehicle passed the standard, it is issued with a Gibraltar Certificate of Registration. The registration document complies with the provisions of EU Legislation on vehicle registration documents.

3.) In the event the Certificate of Registration is lost or destroyed a duplicate copy can be obtained for a fee of 15. A Lost/Stolen property report is required from the Royal Gibraltar Police supporting the application.

Registration, certificate of registration and transfer of ownership.

1. For Registering a motor cycle with an engine capacity up to 50cc - 20.

2. For Registering any other vehicle - 30.

3. Certificate of Registration - 15.

4. Duplicate Certificate of Registration - 15.

5. Transfer of ownership - 15.

As part of the registration process the Licensing Authority must be sure that an imported used vehicle, meets the required legal standards.

They are:

   European whole vehicle type approval standards; and
   Vehicles (Construction, Equipment and Maintenance) Regulations

Need for the Document

All motor vehicles imported into Gibraltar must be registered. An application for the registration of a vehicle is made either when a brand new vehicle is sold by a Dealership in Gibraltar or is privately imported into Gibraltar by an individual. In the case of an imported vehicle, this must be done as soon as possible.
