Apply In-Person:

1. To reserve a Company Name, the applicant must go to the Register General Department. Contact link
2. Information related to the RGD office and the License authority can be obtained from the “Office locations and contacts” section of this page.
3. Applicant has to approach the Register General Department in Ghana and the applicant can get their application form for Business Name Search.
4. After deciding the Name for the Company, the applicant must visit the nearest office of Registrar of Companies office.
5. The applicant must obtain the Form “Application for Reservation of a Company Name” Form from the authorities in the RGD office.
6. Make sure that the applicants have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
7. The application must be filled with the necessary details.
8. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.The prescribed fee must pay along with the application form.
9. The filled application form must be submitted to the officials in the RGD office.
10. The authorities in the Registrar office will verify the application form.
11. If there is no other company reserved with the same name, then the application will be approved by the officials.
12. The applicant’s Company Name will be reserved for 60 days after the approval.
13. The applicants extend the reservation for another 60 days, if they apply again for reservation before the expiry date.
14. The applicant must register the company in the name they reserved before the expiry date. Otherwise, the name will be given to other applicant on request.
15. The Company Name Reservation will be approved immediately in the Ghana RGD office.

Apply Online

1. The Company Name reservation can also be made online in Digital Ghana online portal Link
2. First, the applicants have to enter their “Company Type” and then “Entity Name”. (Company Name Reservation)
3. After entering the details, the applicant must select the “Search” button. This option will show the other similar Company Name’s Registered in Ghana.
4. If applicants “Reservation Name” already exist, then it will show warning sign as “Unavailable - The name is unavailable at this point of time. Please enter another name.”
5. In this case, applicants have found other Unique Name for the Company.
6. If applicant Reservation Name is “Unique”, then it will show the option “Reserve”.
7. The applicant must select the “Reserve” button on the webpage.
8. It will take the applicants to the “Login Via” page.
9. There will be two options available, namely, “e-Profile” and “ROC Pass”.
10. If the applicant is a New User, then they have to create account in “e-Profile”.
11. To create the “e-Profile”, click on the “Create an Account” option under the “e-Profile” menu.
12. On the next page, enter the “email address” and a verification link will be sent to the Email.
13. After that, the user must “Create password” and enter other information and then must select the “submit” button.
14. Later, the applicant must visit the Births, Deaths and Marriages (‘BDM’) office or the RGD with the necessary documents for his/her e-profile activation.
15. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
16. Then, the e-Profile will be activated. After the activation, the applicant can “Reserve the Company Name” using the “Login Credentials” on same website portal.
17. The further details must be entered in the web page.
18. Then the prescribed fee must pay along with the application.
19. If there is no other company reserved with the same name, then the application will be approved by the officials.
20. The applicant’s Company Name will be reserved for 60 days after the approval.
21. The applicant extends the reservation for another 60 days, if they apply again for reservation before the expiry date.
22. The applicant must register the company in the name they reserved before the expiry date. Otherwise, the name will be given to other applicant on request.
23. The Company Name Reservation will be approved immediately in the Ghana register general department.

• Photo ID of applicant with date of birth information (E.g. Passport, Voter registration card, Driver License)
• Foreign company incorporation certificate (For foreign company)
• Letter of authorization (For agents)
• Letter of authorization from business owner to reserve a similar company name (If required)

For e-Profile Creation:

• Original or certified copy of your Birth Certificate.
• Birth Registration Number.
• Valid Photo ID card.
• FNPF/FRCS Joint ID Card.
• FNPF Membership Card.

• Pay processing fees for this procedure is GHS 60.00

• The name approved under RUN process for new company registration is valid for a period of 20 days from the date of approval. In case of change of name of an existing company, the name shall be valid for 60 days from the date of approval.

• Before Registering a Company legally, the Company Name must be reserved in the Ghana register general department.

• Registration of Business Names (amendment) Act in Ghana, 2012 (Act 837).
• In relation to act 151 of business name registration of 1962 constitution of Ghana requires that a business/entity name search be conducted and approved before the registration process of any local business/entity so as to avoid the use of business names already registered.
