In-Person :

1. Visit the ministry of the interior in Accra Ghana or Ghana diplomatic mission abroad and express your interest
2. You will then be required to purchase the application form (Renunciation form 13).
3. Submit the completed duly filled application form along with the required documents (listed below).
4. If the application is submitted via the embassy itbe forwarded to the ministry of interior in Accra Ghana for verification and processing.
5. If the minister or authorized official is satisfied that all the documents are in order you will be notified of the outcome and be issued with the certificate of renunciation of citizenship.

Please note: that you will be required to surrender the Ghanaian Passport and other identification document(s) issued by the Ghana government, beforebeing handed the certificate.

• An application letter, applying for renunciation of Ghanaian citizenship, addressed to the Minister for the Interior
  • The letter should give applicant’s detailed curriculum vitae, and state the name and current address of his/her parents.
  • The letter should also state whether the applicant is in any way indebted to the Government of Ghana by way of bond, scholarship or otherwise.
• Two (2) recent passport sized photographs
• Copy of Ghanaian Passport (Bio Data Page)
• Assurance letter from the country where applicant is acquiring new citizenship
• Receipt of payment for Renunciation form (photocopy)
• Any other documents that may be requested by the authorized official.

• Any citizen of Ghana of full age and capacity who is also a citizen of any country; or a national of a foreign country, is eligible to make the application to renounce their Ghana Citizenship.
• The individual must be:-
  • Must be aged 18 and above
  • Must have a sound mind
  • Must have or will soon obtain foreign citizenship
  • Has acquired or would likely be granted citizenship in another country
  • Has no criminal or financial liability to the state

• Renunciation form 13 purchase cost – GH₵1,200.00 (in Ghana)
• The cost of purchasing the renunciation form varies between embassies (please consult with the embassy)

• The validity period is forever
