Ghana - Renewal of Insurance Licence

Apply In-Person

  1. To Renew Insurance Licence in Ghana, the applicants has to approach the Ghana National Health Insurance Authority office or National Insurance Commission Contact link or Contact link
  2. A renewal application form of insurance licence shall be made in Form to the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Ghana.
  3. Fill the application form and attach all the required documents for renewal as prescribed in the section of required documents in this procedure.
  4. The old application for renewal of Insurance licence should be returned to the insurance regulatory Authority for endorsement on it of the renewal which shall be in Form.
  5. Applicant should attach all relevant documents in the application form and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  7. Application for insurance renewal Licence must be made in the name of a person or a corporation and submitted on a standard form as prescribed by the Authority.
  8. The application form must be submitted together with other required documents and the proposed insurance plans which must comply with minimum standards as specified in insurance Act.
  9. In renewing insurance Licence under the insurance Act, the insurance Regulatory Authority of Ghana may make such amendments to the Licence and impose such new terms and conditions as it considers fit.
  10. The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Ghana shall, if it is satisfied with the particulars shown in the Renewal application and if satisfied that all requirements of the Insurance Act and the regulations have been complied with, renew the Licence of the applicant for the next licensing year.
  11. Not less than one month before the end of a licensing year, every holder of Insurance Licence, who intends to renew his or her Licence shall apply to the Insurance Regulatory Authority in the prescribed manner along with the prescribed fee and with any other forms or documents that may be prescribed.
  12. The Processing time for this procedure is 1 month.

  • Proof of identity
  • Recent passport size photograph of the applicant.
  • Audited accounts returns for the recent time.
  • In the case of foreign applicant, applicant will avail the immigrant status of all your non Ghanaian employees. i.e photocopy and originals work permit.
  • Recent passport size photograph of the applicant.
  • Certificate of proficiency.
  • Clearance letter from the insurance institute of Ghana.
  • Any other relevant information that may be required.

  • Any person carrying out business in Ghana is eligible for Health insurance license renewal.




Fees

  • Application Fees: 500,000 GHS- Registration
  • Renewal Fee: 3,000,000 GHS.

Need for the Document

  • A person shall not carry on insurance business, reinsurance business or the business of a HMO in Ghana without a valid licence issued by the Authority.

  • The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is mandated by National Health Insurance Act, 2012 (Act 852) to regulate Private Health Insurance Schemes (PHIS) found in Ghana.The Authority registers, licenses and supervises the operations of PHIS in Ghana.
