Apply In-Person:
- To Obtain Ground Water Permit in person, the applicant has to approach the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL). Contact link
- Applicant must obtain the application form from GWCL office.
- Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
- Applicant should read carefully in the application form, after all details must be filled in the application form.
- Please provide the names and addresses of two referees who can comment on the character competence and reputation of himself/herself and his/her firm.
- Please provide the name and address of his/her firm's bankers as required by the Director.
- The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
- Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
- Submit the completed form in two copies along with the supporting documents to the respective office.
- The Director shall after receipt of application referred the application to any public authority designated by the Committee for consideration and comments.
- The permit may be granted for a period not exceeding five years, the permit shall be granted subject to such conditions as are relevant to the specified particular types of uses determined by the Committee.
- A processing time of 15 days is needed to complete the processing of the Ground water permit, after which the applicant will be contacted through a phone call to collect his/her Ground water permit.
- Applicant will be required to carry his/her identification documents when collecting his/her Ground water Permit.

- A borehole completion report with attachments to include the pumping test data, certificate of water quality analysis, sitting report.
- For companies or NGOs Company profile indicating Memorandum and Articles of Association, shareholders and management set up registered certificate.

Fees
- A fee for this procedure is free of charge.
License Fee:
- 450,000 GHS New permit.
- 200,000 ¬ 3,000,000 GHS payable annually depending on the amount of water being abstracted.
Validity
- This validity for this permit is 5 years.

- Information on works of a waterway, additional works and measures to be undertaken.
Need for the Document
- A water permit (consent) may be required to take, use, dam or divert water, or to take or use heat or energy from water. Water permits are commonly needed for taking, using, damming or diversion of surface and ground water, e.g. for irrigation purposes.
- Ghana water company limited was established on 1stjuly, 1999 following the conversion of Ghana water and sewerage corporation into a state-owned limited liability company under the statuary corporations Act 461 of 1993 as amended by LI 1648.
