Apply In-Person:
- To Import wildlife specimen in Ghana, the applicant has to approach the Ghana Revenue Authority Office.
- Address and contact details can be found in the following Contact link
- Applicant must obtain the application form from GRA office.
- Applicant must provide all the necessary information in the application form before submitting it.
- Documents that are needed for completing this procedure are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Applicant should make sure to attach photocopies of necessary documents along with the application form while submitting it at the office.
- Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
- Submit the completed form in two copies along with the supporting documents to the respective office.
- If all above mentioned procedures were followed properly, the applicant can get their permit within 21 days.
- Applicant can get the permit from the office after getting notification from the concerned authorities.
- If there is no information about the application even after 21 days, the applicant can visit the office to know the status of their application.

- Copy of ID/company certificate of incorporation/work permit(of applicant)
- Certificate of Ownership
- Import permit issued
- Letter of authority (if taken from wild)
- Certificate of possession
- CITES or non-CITES export permit
- Phytosanitary Health Certificate (for the case of plant material) Veterinary Health certificate (the case of animal materials).

Eligibility
- Ghanaians, Permanent Residents of Ghanaians and Foreigners who wish to import a wildlife specimen are eligible.
Fees
- CITES import/ export/ re-export permit GHS.150, 000.
- Non- CITES import/ export/ re-export permit GHS. 100,000.
Validity
- This document is valid for three months.

- Scientific name(Genus and species) ,
- Description (give age and sex if specimen is alive),

- Details of Import Permit issued
- Permit no
- Date
- Details of Certificate of Ownership issued
- State whether specimen was taken from :(Wild, Bred in captivity, artificially propagated)
- If taken from wild, state locality and attach letter of authority.
- Comments from Scientific Authority.
- Chief Licensing Officer’s Remarks.
Need for the Document
- Wildlife specimen Import Permit is issued under Section 40 of the Wildlife (Ghana wildlife Act).Individuals or organizations wishing to export or import wildlife specimens will be required to make an application to the Director, Ghana Revenue Authority using official forms.
