Step 1 The Ghana National Scholarship Secretariat Board will Advertise for government scholarships in an official government News paper seeking for all students in approved public schools whose parents are financial distressed to apply for Government scholarship.
Step 2 All Eligible student then applies to the GNS Board for the scholarship through their concerned universities or Tertiary institutions :-
i). After making the necessary payments obtain and fill in application form from Universities (office of the dean of students)or directly from the secretariat;After Appending your signature to the forms and attach all requested documents; these include
Step 2 Submit application within a specified time frame to the office of the Deans of Students or directly to the Ghana National Secretariat offices .Forms should be endorsed by school Heads and District Chief Executives of their District of origin before submission to the Secretariat for processing. The Scholarship Application Forms shall then be received by the Records Officer at the at the secretariat offices.
Step 3 The Received application forms shall be recorded at the Mail registry and forwarded to the Operations Unit at the secretariat (scholarship Office) for assessment. In this case any forms that are defective the applicant shall be informed through e-mail, sms message or by telephone.The duration of this Scholarships is variable as it depends on when the scholarship award is given. Then It is transferable to another approved public school with the student name scholarship award holder.or (the Scholarship award is transferable with the holder to another approved public boarding school or University).
Step 4 Then a list of successful applicants shall be generated and sent to the Head Operations for verification, and evaluation and recommendation to the coordinator for approval. The head of operations will focus on Intended objective of providing financial support to brilliant but needy students who hail from regions outside the three northern regions and whose parents/guardians are financially handicapped.
Step 5 The coordinator then presents the approved list to the Selection Committee for discussion and final approval.
Implementation will include authorization,forwarding tuition and functional fees to the various institution account and publishing list in the print media and on the Ministry website and drafting of the Scholarship award letters for the Coordinators signature.
Step 6 The successful applicants are then informed of the Scholarship Committees decision and the amount allocated for each Student and the duration .The the student are required to pick the Scholarship letters at their institution and sign a grant commitment form before a scholarship letter is issued out.

i). National Student Scholarships is for brilliant but needy students and qualified workers at a minimum assess cost for human resource development for the purpose of national growth and development.
ii). The relevance of courses Must be critical to the national development.
iii)Sponsored students studying overseas must returning to Ghana upon completion of their course to serve and participate in the national Development of their country.
iv). ONLY qualified candidates who have fully completed the prescribed application forms for the Government Awards scholarship are required to attend selection interviews as scheduled.
The Scholarships Secretariat was established in January, 1960 as an extra-ministerial body under the Office of the President to provide National Scholarships to Ghanian needy students within the country and Outside Ghana. Its main objective is to administer and exercise central control over scholarship awards, for manpower development so as to ensure effective manpower support for the various national development programmes.
a).Administration of various Government scholarships tenable in Ghana and overseas, namely,
b).. Compilation and maintenance of records of candidates awarded scholarships
c).. Providing financial assistance for private students abroad who are in hardship and distressed economic circumstances. The relevance of courses as being critical for national development and the prospect of scholars returning to Ghana to serve upon completion, are taken into account. Support is mostly in the form of one-time cash payment and is subject to availability of funds.
d).. Counseling of private students wishing to study overseas and assisting them to procure visas by issuing them with letters of introduction.
e).. Ensuring through the respective Ghana Missions abroad, the welfare of all sponsored students through the transfer of funds for their upkeep.
f).. Arranging reception for all returning sponsored students and also assisting in the clearance of their personal effects.
g).. Monitoring to ensure that scholarship fund paid beneficiaries are properly utilized.
