Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for marriage certificate in Ghana, the applicant must visit to the Registrar general department. contact link
2. Application form can be obtained from the respective office on visit or can be a written one as advised
3. Fill the Application form duly signed by both husband and wife. Submit it to the receiving authority along with required documents and fees as advised.
4. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. A fee for this marriage certificate is GHS 85.
6. The submitted application will be recorded in the registry after verification. Applicant will be provided with the receipt for the submitted application.
7. Applicant will be asked to come to the premises on a scheduled date to complete the registration.
8. On the said day, both parties, along with a respective Officer who attended their marriage, need to be present before the registrar.
9. Please follow the guidelines of the authorities to complete the formalities for registration.
10. Applicant and witness will be asked to sign on the registry to endorse their marriage.
11. The Certificate will be issued on the same day for the already solemnized marriage.
12. In case of the application made in advance (before marriage) for the issuance of certificate, authorities will look for any objection from public for thirty days and then the process will be executed on the day of marriage by a assigned authority and the certificate will be issued as applicable.

• Marriage certificate is an essential and crucial legal document that gives a legal and valid definition of the relationship between two partners.
• Furthermore, it is also commonly used as proof of marriage while applying for various other documents such as: partner visa for spouse.
  

Those intending to get married are required to give notice to the marriage registrar in the district where the marriage is going to occur. The registrar would then publish a notice of marriage and then issue a certificate after 21 days if no objection is raised.
