Ghana - Apply for Varying of Pharmacy Business

Apply In-Person

  1. To Apply for Varying of Pharmacy Business in Ghana, the applicant must go to the Ghana Medical and Dental council or Pharmacy Council Ghana, Headquarters link
  2. Application form can be download from the Link
  3. Applicant should read carefully in the application form, after all details must be filled in the application form.
  4. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant form while submitting it at the office.
  6. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  7. Applications for registration shall be addressed to the Registrar of the State pharmacy Council and shall be accompanied by the prescribed fee.
  8. If upon such application the Registrar is of opinion that the applicant is entitled to have his name entered in the register under the provisions of this Act for the time being applicable, he/she shall enter the name of the applicant in the register.
  9. Any person, whose application for registration is rejected by the Registrar, may within three months from the date of such rejection appeal to the State Council, and the decision of the State Council thereon shall be final.
  10. Upon entry in the register of a name under this section, the Registrar shall issue a certificate of registration in the prescribed form.
  11. The Processing time for this procedure is 15 days.

Eligibility

  • A person want to register himself/herself as a pharmacist should have at least minimum of Diploma in Pharmacy or Bachelor in Pharmacy or Pharmacy D.
  • He/she must hold a degree in pharmacy or its equivalent that qualifies the applicant to register in the country where it was obtained.
  • The candidates should have undergone the 12-month rational internship programme organised by the pharmacy council for fresh graduates without professional experience or 3-month abridged internship for foreign based practising pharmacists.
  • For foreign practicing pharmacists, the person should have done at least 12-months post qualification practice experience.
  • After completing above mentioned qualifications, you become eligible for registering as a pharmacist. If you have only Diploma in pharmacy, then 500 hours practical training spread over a period of not less than 3 months is also required to become eligible.

  • For becoming pharmacist in India, a person has to fulfil criteria as per Pharmacy Act.
  • Registered Pharmacist is a person having educational qualification in pharmacy and his/her name is registered under state pharmacy council of state in which person reside or want to conduct his/her profession or business.

Restrictions on use of Pharmacists

  • A person who is not a pharmacist shall not describe himself or hold himself out to be a pharmacist by the use of the terms `pharmacist', `chemist', `dispenser of drugs', `druggist', `compounder of drugs', or any other similar term.
  • No person shall open or permit any other person to open any premises to the public under the description of `pharmacy', `dispensary', `chemist', `drug store' or any other similar description unless a registered pharmacist is on the premises to supervise the dispensing of drugs or medication.
