Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for Older person’s grant (OPG) is available in the Social Welfare Department link.
2. An applicant has to approach the social welfare department and the applicants can get their application form for older person’s grant (OPG).
3. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.( Both photocopies and originals)
5. Applicant may also send e-mail to info@pensioncommission.org to request for the prescribed forms and fees schedule.
6. A fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request.
7. Completed application forms and the relevant application documents for provisional license as individual trustees should be submitted in hard copies and sent, together with the application fees.
8. The application form is verified, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
9. The Processing time for this procedure takes 14 days.

• For South African citizens, permanent residents or refugees aged 60 and older with an annual income of less than ZAR65, 106 and assets of no more than ZAR937, 200 per person (or a combined income of ZAR130, 200 and assets of ZAR1.9 million for couples).

• The older persons grant in Ghana involves Active Ageing which is the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age and Community Based Care Services which is the delivery of care services which can be accessed by older persons from near their homes and encourage them to participate in the development process.
• The major role of this older persons grant in Ghana is to ensure the efficient, effective and equitable development and administration of pensions in Ghana, in order to protect and promote the interest of pensioners, while advancing the development agenda of the country. In Ghana older persons are men and women who are aged 60 years and above.

• The physically and mentally incapacitated is older persons who live in isolation without any family or community support.
• The Chronically Sick older person is who suffer from incurable diseases.
• The Homeless is older persons who live in temporary make shift shelter in the rural areas or resort to living on the streets or in shacks made out temporary materials in major urban centres.
• The Widows and Widowers are older persons who lost their person but have the obligation of heading their families.
• The Caregivers of Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children is older persons who have an obligation of taking care of children who are of primary school going age 6?12 years;
• The Economically Active Poor is these are older persons who are economically active, but they are not gainfully employed. Most of the work they do is either voluntary or unpaid family work.
