Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Data Protection Service (organizations) in person, the applicant has to approach the Ghana Data Protection Commission Contact link.
2. Collect the application form from the respective office.
3. The applicant must make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
4. Submit the duly completed form along with the supporting documents {listed below}to the Helpdesk/ Reception Counter, Data Protection Commission Office {DPCO} to be verified by the attending officer.
5. If the content of the application form is not filled accurately or there are missing documents your application will not be accepted and will be issued back, for correction.
6. If the officer is satisfied that the application file is in order, the file will then be forwarded to a Data Controller Senior officer to be verified and processed.
7. If the Data Controller Senior officer is satisfied that all the conditions as set for the application are meet, you will be informed of the approval by writing/mail and required to make payment to the prescribed registration fee.
8. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
9. Payment can be done at the Data Protection Office by cash or by cheque drawn to the order of the Government of Mauritius.
10. Please Note: Data Protection Office will NOT accept any combined cheques for payment of Registration/Renewal in respect of Controllers. All applications must be accompanied by their individual cheques.
11. It is also advisable to write the Application ID number and name of controller on the back of the cheque and submit the cheque for payment to the Cash Office at DPC office for processing within 14 days of the date of filing the application.
12. Upon making payment, present the payment receipt along with your NIC to the DPC registry office to be verified by the registrar, who will then issue you with the registration certificate as a controller.
13. The processing time for this procedure takes approximately 14 days.

• A copy of Certificate of Incorporation and/or the Business Registration Number (BRN) card or any other document confirming the existence of the said organization.
• Valid identification document {National Identity card {NIC}/Passport)
• Any other related documents supporting the change of name, amalgamation or cessation of business issued by the Corporate and Business Registration Department (i.e. Companies Division).

A controller or processor who fails to notify the Commissioner will commit an offense and will, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding 50,000 rupees.

• All public and private organizations, societies, partnerships, professionals such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, architects, notaries, and sole traders such as jewelers, bookmakers, and any other organizations processing or keeping personal data of living individuals, are required to register themselves as a controller with the Data Protection Office and obtain a registration certificate.

• Data protection Act, 22012(Act 843) defines a data controller and data processor in Ghana.

• National identity Card can be used as proof of identity.
