Obtaining a voter's card

• Remember that you can only receive a voter's card if your name is included in the electoral list. Your name is automatically entered in the electoral roll when you turn 18 years old. You may also voluntarily register as a voter in person, by sending the registration form and other required documents by mail or logging in online and using service-public.fr my teleservice.
• Your voter card will be mailed to you a year following your registration:
  • Election year: You may receive your voter's card 3 days before election day at the latest.
  • No election for the year: You may receive your voter's card July 1, at the latest.
• Immediately notify the election officials in your area in case there are errors in your card.
• Undelivered cards before the election are kept at the polling station. You may recover your voter's card at the polling station by presenting proper identification.
• Individuals who just turned 18 may also receive their voter's card during citizenship ceremony (if your town is organizing this type of event.

To vote

• You can present either your voter's registration card or a valid identification to vote.

Lost or stolen card

• If the card has been lost or stolen, you can, before the election, ask the city a certificate of registration on the electoral roll.

To voluntarily register as a voter:

• Registration Form/Request (for those applying as a voter in person or those submitting their requests by mail)
• Identification proving your French nationality (valid or expired for less than 1 year):
  • Passport or
  • National identity card
• If you just became a French citizen recently and you do not yet have a piece of French identification you may present an identification issued in your country of origin like a passport or an identity card (valid or expired for less than one year). You must also present a proof of your French nationality (decree of naturalization or citizenship certificate)
• Proof of address

You may obtain a voter's card as long as you are a registered voter.

In France, voter registration is automatic at the age of 18. The citizen also has the option of voluntarily registering as a voter.

The voter's card is a document that certifies that an individual is registered as a voter in a municipality. It is issued to a newly registered voter after a year following his/her registration. There are also years when new cards are issued to all registered voters.
