Florida - Obtain a Divorce Certificate

In Person

Print and complete the application and submit with required information and documents with cash or check or money order payable to "Vital Statistics".

Order by Mail

To obtain a divorce record by mail, you must submit a signed letter or application which includes the following information:

About the record being requested:

  1. Full names of the husband and wife, including wife's maiden name
  2. Date of the divorce
  3. City or county where divorce was granted

The name of the husband is required because divorce records are indexed under the name of the husband only.

About the person making the request:

  1. Full name
  2. Mailing address
  3. Telephone number where you can be reached during office hours of 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Eastern Standard Time

Send your application or letter of request along with your payment in the form of check or money order to:

If you are not sure of the date of the divorce, provide a range of years to be searched.

An additional fee of $2.00 is required for each additional year searched when included with your original request.

Add the extra search fee to your check or money order and indicate the additional years to be searched in your letter.


"RUSH" processing service

If you are requesting "RUSH" service by mail you must also include an additional "RUSH" fee of $10.00 and mark the outside of your envelope "RUSH". This fee does not affect delivery times.


Express Delivery

If you prefer overnight delivery of your vital records, provide a self-addressed, pre-paid express delivery envelope.

Express delivery is available only if a pre-paid self-addressed express delivery envelope has been provided by the client.


Applying Online/By Phone - VitalCheck

VitalChek is an official service, authorized by Florida Vital Statistics, to securely order certified Florida vital records, like birth certificates. Other online services may not be authorized by Florida Vital Records, and may charge additional fees without providing approved services or guaranteeing confidentiality of your data.

The divorce you are requesting must have occurred in Florida.




Fees

  • Divorce report: $5.00 (each certification)
  • Each additional certification: $4.00 (when ordered at the same time)


Delivery Method

  • Standard: $0.00
  • Rush: $10.00
  • Express: $10.00 (Plus a pre-paid express delivery envelope.)


The fee is required for the search of records and is non-refundable, even if the record requested is not located. In such a case, a certified "No Record Found" statement will be provided. Duplicate copy fees for records "not found" may be refunded if the applicant sends a letter of request.

Florida Dept. of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics

After the divorce has been recorded, the Clerk of Court sends a Report of Dissolution of Marriage to the Bureau of Vital Statistics. If the divorce was recently granted, it may take up to sixty (60) days to be received by the office from the Clerk of Court. The divorce decree and other court papers remain on file at the Clerk's office. If the current dissolution of marriage is less than sixty (60) days from the date of application and you need evidence of the divorce for legal purposes, you may wish to contact the county where the Dissolution of Marriage was granted.

Note: The document that you will obtain from the office is an abstract report and not the entire judgment of dissolution of marriage. If you need the judgment, contact the Clerk of Court in the county where the divorce was granted.
