Apply In-Person:
- To Obtain Import Permit for Cattle, the applicant must go to the Biosecurity of Authority office in Fiji. Contact Link
- The importer/shipper (applicant) can obtain the application form from the authorities in the Biosecurity office.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application form should be filled with necessary details, and along with the required documents, it should be submitted to the Biosecurity officer.
- If the animals are kept in Transit before reaching the destination country, then the application form for Live Animals in Transit must also be attached. Application Form
- The prescribed fee payment must be made and the receipt must be attached along with the application form.
- After submitting the application, the Biosecurity officer will inspect the animals, and then will verify the details given in the application form.
- After complete verification, the import permit for cattle will be issued to the applicant.
- The complete fee details to get the import permit for cattle is given in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The processing time will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
NOTE: It should be noted that Cattle should be imported to Fiji only from New Zealand or Australia excluding the Northern territory and areas of Queensland and Western Australia North of 22-degree South latitude.
Required Documents
- Dully filled Application Form.
- A statutory declaration form with ear tag number.
- Certificate from Government Veterinary Officer of the country of origin. The certification must be made on:
- That he/she examined each animal within 7 days preceding its shipment and found it to be free from clinical evidence of infectious or contagious disease and ectoparasites.
- That each animal has been dipped or sprayed on at least 2 occasions at 4-day intervals, the last of which was within 24 hours of shipment, with an approved acaricide, the name of which shall be given.
- That in case of animals imported from New Zealand, the MPI, standard Completion Fixation Test for Bovine Brucellosis within 14 days immediately preceding the date of shipment with negative result.
- All animals contained in the Shipment of Streptomycin at the rate or 10 mg per kg body weight daily, or antibiotics specified by Biosecurity Authority Fiji.
- All animals should be treated for Internal Parasites within 7 days immediately preceding its shipment.
- That none of the disease specified by Fiji Laws has existed in the country of origin, or in case of Australia, the state of origin, of the animal for the period of 12 months preceding its shipment.
- In case of animals imported from Australia, the Government Veterinary officer should certify that,
- All animals in the shipment come from an area free from cattle tick and have never been during any stages of their lives within an area where the tick is known to exist.
- Each animal should be tested for serum neutralization test for bovine ephemeral fever with negative test result within 14 days immediately preceding shipment.
- Each animal should be tested for Complement Fixation Test or Agar Gel Precipitin Test for Bluetongue with negative result within 14 days immediately preceding shipment.
- If the animals are kept in Transit before reaching the destination country, then Application form for Live Animals in Transit is required. Application Form

- Other documents requested by the biosecurity officer while inspecting. (If applicable)

Eligibility
The shipper/owner of the live animals must apply for the import permit before entering into Fiji.
Fees
- Inspection of live animals on transit during working hours - per animal - $44.85
- Inspection of live animals on transit after working hours - per animal - $71.76
- Permit of importation of live animals (within 6 months of issue) single - per permit - $302.63
- Permit for the multiple importation of animal/animal products (within 6 months of issue) - $482.12
Validity
The validity duration will be mentioned in the import permit issued to the applicant.

Need for the Document
Without the import permit, none of the live animals can be brought into Fiji.
It is advisable to import the animals within 6 months of receiving the Import permit from the Biosecurity officer.
Other uses of the Document/Certificate
