Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for the Refugee Visa, the applicant must visit the Fiji Immigration Department. The overseas applicant must send the application form to the Director of Immigration. Contacts Link
2. The application form should be obtained from the authorities in the Immigration department or else can be downloaded from the website. Application Form
3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. The application form should be filled with necessary details, and then it should be submitted along with the required documents to the Director of Immigration Department.
5. The immigration department officer will go through the application form and then will forward it to the Fiji embassy.
6. After the documents are verified, the applicant will be called for Personal interview to verify the identity.
7. Once the identity verification is done, the applicant will receive the Refugee Visa.

9. The process to approve the Refugee visa will take between 3 months and 6 months.

• If the applicant receives referral to the Refugee Admissions Program, then they are eligible for Refugee Visa.
• If the applicant previously had the status of refugee or asylum are also eligible for the Refugee Visa.
• If the individual is resettled in Fiji as a refugees are eligible to apply for Refugee Visa.
• If the individual is granted asylum status by the Fiji government can apply Refugee Visa for their Spouse and Minor Children. But this should be applied within 2 years of the Asylum Status.
  

• The applicant must pay $500 as a fraud prevention and detection fee.
• This must be paid each time a new I-129-S is submitted.
  

The Refugee Visa is valid for 5 years, and must be renewed after the expiry.

The applicants must know the instructions regarding the Refugee Visa:

• The applicant must meet the normal standards for refugees regarding excludability.
• The Applicant must have received their status through adjudication, and not through derivative basis.
• Refugee seekers must prove that they have a well-founded fear of future persecution for instance based on race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, and/or political opinion.
• Fiji refugees that resettle into the community are free to move around the island and seek employment.

In order to travel and settle in Fiji Island as a Refugee, Refugee visa is an important document.

• Friday: 8.30am - 3.30pm

Definition of Refugees:

• A person outside of his/her country of nationality or outside his/her habitual residence, who is unwilling or unable to return to that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion.
• In addition, he/she must be able to establish that he/she is not already firmly resettled in a foreign country and must fall within certain refugee processing priorities.
• A refugee does not include anyone who ordered, incited, assisted, or otherwise participated in the persecution of any person on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.
