Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for obtaining a single status certificate in Ethiopia can be obtained from the Ministry of Justice, Ethiopia contact link
2. Applicant should provide necessary details in the application form.
3. Applicant must carry all related documents which are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page (both photocopies and originals).
4. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form.
5. Fee for this procedure is 150 Birr for Ethiopians and 300 Birr for Foreigners.
6. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents along with the application form while submitting.
7. If all the above-mentioned procedures were followed properly, the procedure will be completed within a week by visiting the office or via post.
   

Documents required for this procedure to complete are:

• National ID Card
• Passport
• Address Proof
• In case of a divorcee, decree must be provided
• If widowed, death certificate of their previous spouse is necessary
• If name has been changed, proof of the name change has to be provided

Any non-nationals who want to marry in a foreign country are eligible to get a single status certificate from their country.

Fee for this procedure is 150 Birr for Ethiopians and 300 Birr for Non-Ethiopians.

Valid until the person gets married.

Single status Certificate is also known by following names – No Record of Marriage, Certificate of Freedom to Marry, Certificate of no Impediment for Marriage, Certificate of No Record-marriage, Affidavit of single status, Affidavit of marriage ability.
