Ethiopia - Obtain a Yellow Fever vaccination Certificate

Apply In-Person:

  1. To obtain a yellow fever vaccination certificate the applicant should approach the ministry of health in Ethiopia contact link
  2. The person needs to get the vaccination a minimum of 10days before travel, or else the boarding will be refused. This is because the vaccination needs to mature.
  3. You can get the vaccination from any ministry of health offices present in the border entry points, air ports and sea ports.
  4. If you are an Ethiopian Citizen, you can get vaccination from public and private hospitals and clinic run by the government.
  5. The vaccination takes few minutes once you get vaccinated a small yellow booklet will be provided – yellow fever certificate.
  6. The yellow fever certificate must be kept next to your passport and other travel documents because it is the proof that you have to stick to all the travel requirements.

Eligibility

  • Any person entering or leaving Ethiopia above nine months of age must be in possession of a valid certificate of vaccination against yellow fever.
  • The under mentioned persons are exempted from obtaining a yellow fever vaccination certificate:
    • Infants below the age of six months
    • Any person suffering from some chronic illness and has poor resistance and is thereby exempted from being vaccinated.
    • Crew and passengers of an aircraft transiting through an airport located in yellow fever infected area provided the health officer is satisfied that such persons remained within the airport premises during the period of stay.

Instructions

  • The vaccination is recommended for anyone above 9 months old.
  • It is advisable that you should visit a clinic in your country, about six weeks before your flight to get the vaccination. If you are short of time, schedule the vaccination day ten days before the flight trip.
