2. Applicant should fill-in all the necessary details in application form provided by the ministry.
3. Applicant should make sure to carry all the documents that are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page (Both photocopies and originals).
4. Fee that is to be paid is given below:
   • Cross rate $1.00
   • Light motor Vehicle $10
   • Minibus $10
   • Third party Insurance is payable at US $30 per month for small private vehicles.
5. Applicant must attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form while submitting.
6. Originals might be collected by the authorities for verification purposes.
7. The collected originals will be returned to the applicant right after verification.
8. Applicant can get their permit immediately at the office on the same day of applying.
   

Apply Online

1. Application form for obtaining a temporary vehicle import permit is available in the following application link.
2. Two languages are available for the applicant to choose from.
3. Applicant can choose any one of the languages and then read the instructions carefully before clicking on “I agree and continue” button.
4. The login page is opened right after clicking on the “I agree and continue” button.
5. If the applicant is already a user, they can login directly with their “Email or Mobile Number” and their “Password”.
6. If the applicant is a new user, then, they have to click on the “Register” button.
7. A page in which details are to be filled for a new registration opens.
8. Applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the registration form and then click on the “Register” button.
9. Once registration is successful, the customer can use their login credentials for logging in.
10. After logging in, the applicant has to enter details that are requested in the online application form.
11. Applicant has to upload the digital copies of the documents (whichever is necessary) in the application form.
12. Fee for this process can be paid online.
13. Finally, the applicant must click on the “Submit” button.
14. If the registration is successful, the permit will be issued to applicant within a day by visiting the office.
15. A soft copy of the permit will be sent to the customer’s mail.

• Passenger type motor vehicles are commonly known as saloon cars or sedans and station wagons.
• Goods carrying motor- vehicles with a gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5 tons such as pick-ups and double cabs.

• The owner of the Vehicle has to renew the registration with the Land Transportation Office in Ethiopia by law upon entry into Ethiopia.
• Compulsory Third-Party Liability (CTPL) insurance is required before the Government agency will approve the registration of a foreign private vehicle.
• This insurance is supposed to compensate the family of any person who will become a casualty of a vehicular accident.
• An inspection report which details the specifics of the vehicle and the corresponding emission test were done to check the vehicle is in a good condition before it is permitted to be used on the public roads of Ethiopia upon entry into Ethiopia.

All visitors to Ethiopia bringing in a foreign registered private vehicle may be issued with a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) by Ethiopian Revenue and customs Authority upon entry into Ethiopia. A visitor is any person who is not resident in Ethiopia but travels to Ethiopia for a period of time specified at the time of their arrival. This includes Ethiopian working or living in other countries and with valid residence or work permits of those particular countries.
