Apply In-Person:

1. Registration form for marriage is available in the Ministry of Justice, Ethiopia location link
2. Applicant must fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
3. Applicant must carry related documents that are necessary for the process to complete.
4. Documents that are necessary for the process to complete are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the necessary documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Future spouses and their witnesses must appear before civil registrar and declare their oath.
7. Officer of civil status will inform the future spouses about the consequences of declaration of oath.
8. The future spouses can openly declare that they are willing to be married to the other person. Each of the future spouses have the right to refuse marriage under their free will.
9. Ethiopians shall pay 150 Birr and Foreigners shall pay 300 Birr.
10. If all the above-mentioned procedures were followed properly, registration will be done within a day. However, the document will be handed over to the applicant within 3 to 14 days.

• Applicant must not hide if they are already married. If their lie got found out, consequences will be severe.

• People who are under divorce progress (not gotten a divorce yet) must not register for marriage.
