1. To Obtain Death Certificate for Immigrants, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Justice link
2. The applicant is required to present a death certificate, death report from a hospital, evidence of burial, or a signed and witnessed declaration, along.
3. The applicant will be provided with a form of death certificate, whereas if a death occurs at home and no certificate is available, relatives should formally register the death with the city administration.
4. After all, required particulars are presented they are entered into a register of civil status.
5. There after a certificate of registration of death shall be prepared in the official language of the concerned region and in Amharic.
6. Where the registration of death is completed, the officer of civil status shall send three copies of the registration form to the appropriate regional organ within 30 days following the date of registration.
7. The appropriate regional organ shall send two of the copies of the registration form it has received to the appropriate federal organ within 30 days following the date of receipt.
8. The appropriate federal organ shall send one of the copies of a registration form it has received to the Central Statistics Agency within 30 days following the date of receipt.

• Any person who has been leaving or in whose custody the deceased has been is eligible to declare the death in accordance the Civil Code of Ethiopia.

Fee to Obtain Death Certificate

• Ethiopians pay 150 ETB (Ethiopian Currency)
• Foreigners pay 300 ETB (Ethiopian Currency)

• Death certificate is to prove the person's time and date of death, to relieve the individual from social, legal and official commitments, to settle property inheritance and enabling the family to collect insurance and other benefits.

• Public health policies depend heavily on the mortality data from death certificates because they are the only source of information about the causes of death and illnesses preceding death.
