Ethiopia - Getting Married


Procedure

Apply In Person

  1. To Getting Married, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Justice link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. Ensure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  5. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  6. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  7. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  8. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  9. The applicant will need to schedule and attend a civil ceremony at the local Civil Registry Office, or Registro Civil, in the state where the applicant plan to get married.
  10. Once the civil ceremony is complete, the applicant will receive a marriage certificate, which is a legal document that confirms his/her marriage.
  11. This entire process can be completed within 1 week or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
