1. Application form for importing and exporting currencies in Ethiopia is available in the Ministry of Revenues, Ethiopia contact link and in the Ministry of Trade and Industry contact link.
2. Applicant must provide all necessary information in the application form before submitting it.
3. Applicant should make sure to carry photocopies and originals of all documents needed for this procedure to complete.
4. Documents that are needed for completing this procedure are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Applicant should make sure to attach photocopies of necessary documents along with the application form while submitting it at the office.
6. There is no fee for this procedure. This can be done for free of cost.
7. If all above-mentioned procedures were followed properly, applicant can get their document within one day.
8. Applicant can get their document from the office on the same day of application.

This document is necessary for individuals to import and export both local and foreign currencies in Ethiopia.

• Foreigners may not import and export local and foreign currencies exceeding the limit of 10,000 USD.
• Citizens of Ethiopia can import and export up to 100,000 Birr of local currency and there is no limitation for Ethiopian citizens on foreign currencies.
