Apply In-Person:

1. Application form for Contracting a Civil Marriage in Ethiopia can be done in the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice contact link
2. Applicant has to enter all information that is mentioned under “Required Information” section of this page.
3. Applicant must make sure to carry all documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page.
4. Applicant must have both photocopies and originals of the required documents.
5. Applicant must attach photocopies of documents (whichever is required) along with the application form while submitting.
6. Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per authority’s request.
7. If all above-mentioned procedures were followed properly, applicant can get their document within 21 days by visiting the office.
8. If the application is rejected, the applicant has to undergo the application procedure from the beginning.

• Valid ID Proof
• Passport
• Colour Passport Size photographs
• Birth Certificate
• Death Certificate (in case of widowed)
• Divorce Decree (in case of divorced)
• Affidavits to state the marital status

Bride and Groom must have attained the legal age for marriage.

• Proof of Divorce if divorced’
• Proof of No impendent of marriage
  

This certificate is necessary for joining in any health benefits and other property benefits of the spouse.

After a marriage is celebrated, the marriage has to be registered with the Ministry of Justice in Ethiopia.
