Ethiopia - Apply for a Community Radio Licence


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To obtain community radio license, applicant has to approach the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority (EBA) location link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the respective officer.
  3. Complete the application form with necessary details.
  4. Make sure you have all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant should submit evidence which proves that it is established as non-profit organization, according to the applicable law.
  6. Signatures of members of the community on a form to be prepared by the Authority, as evidence to the community’s patronization to establish the broadcasting service.
  7. Submit the application form along with the documents to the concerned officer.
  8. After submission the authorities will verify your application and validate the submitted documents.
  9. After verification process, authority will issue the community radio license within the stipulated period of time.




Required Documents

  • Certificate of Incorporation and location of the station.
  • Current Tax Clearance Certificate, a letter indicating tax waiver should be obtained and attached to the submission for the Community Radio.
  • Certified true copy of Articles and Memorandum of Association.
  • 3 passport photographs of authorized representative of the community/ Association.
  • A copy of Association Constitution.
  • Bank draft.

Eligibility

Applicant who owns a community radio station is eligible to apply.


Fees

On submission, a non-refundable administrative charge which is 2% of the relevant license fee would be paid.

Completed application should be submitted in triplicate with all necessary documents attached and bound.


Required Information

  • Name of the applicant.
  • Address.
  • Phone number.
  • Email ID.
  • A list of the board members together with their address, their level of education and their signatures.
  • The minutes in which the board passed the resolution to establish the Broadcasting Service.
  • A profile of the project which includes financial capacity, man power and technical details.
