To reserve a name for a company, an applicant stats by suggesting a name. the name suggested should be simple and not confusing;

2.Then when a name has been suggested, the applicant should proceed with checking for the uniqueness of the suggested name.

• In this case, the applicant checks the company, business name and trademark register at the office of the Commercial Registry at registrar of companies by using either a computerized or manual search system in the country and this is done to ensure that no other registered company is using the same / similar name as the suggested one.The current CRA system only checks the availability of the name but it does not reserve it.

3.Thereafter the applicant can now go through the name reservation process:

• The government of Egypt introduced a new law says that the name should be unique so the CRA should be checking against all registered companies which reserving company names is done;
• In this case, the applicant visits General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI)which is responsible for reserving the Company name and Request for an application;
• When filling an application, the applicant follows steps as given on the application form through the step;

• When the applicant is done with filling the reservation form, then the founder deposits the company documents at the reception desk, where they are reviewed immediately by a lawyer. The documents to be reviewed are:

i). Trade Name Clearance Certificate

ii). Original Bank Certificate

iii). Power of Attorney from all the founders

iv). Founders IDs

v). Certified copy of auditors listing on Registry of Accountant and Auditors Association

vi. Application to GAFI

prints the approval / confirmation papers. These are printed and kept as proof for reservation of name;

• Thereafter the applicant can now make payment for name reservation. The payment can either be made at the counter or money can be deposited at the office of the Commercial Registry.
• If payment is made the payments slips is given at the end of the process and if money is deposited at the office of the registrar, an applicant must ensure that a receipt is issued to him / her;
• Submit receipts / printed payment slips together with printed name reservation approval documents (confirmation papers) to the Commercial Registry;
• After submission, an applicant waits 30 days for application to be processed and if successful, the company name is reserved.

Anyone who carries on a business or trade within Egypt and he / she is not trading under his or her own name yet he she would want to register his / her company can reserve a company name.

Registration is EGP 51.

Name is reserved for a longer period.

Reserving a name for a company is securing a name that is yet to be registered. In this case a person struggles to find a unique name which suits his / her companys activities and which does not violet the requirements for copyright and trademarks laws in a given country. In Egypt reserving a name for a company is done at the office of the Commercial Registry at registrar of companies.
