Voluntary renunciation of Egyptian citizenship is only valid when the person has obtained prior official authorization. Person must obtain presidential authorization to abandon their Egyptian nationality. In such cases where authorization is not obtained, dual citizenship can exist by default.

Acquisition of citizenship in another country would permit an Egyptian national to renounce his Egyptian Citizenship.

A Person voluntarily obtains foreign citizenship. Person commits certain offenses. Person who takes permanent residency abroad will lose citizenship after six months

Once an application is submitted along with all the required documents and the Ministry has approved the petition of the applicant to renounce his Egyptian citizenship, he/she will received a renunciation certificate.

• Visit the concerned authority personally.
• Fill the application form with the complete information. It must be signed and certified before a magistrate, Justice of Peace, solicitor, notary public or commissioner for oaths.
• Submit the 2 application forms and the necessary documents.
• Pay the prescribed fee.

In all cases of loss of citizenship, a presidential decree is required. Due to the uncertainty created by the emphasis on prior authorization, questions pertaining to loss of citizenship should be directed to the Egyptian embassy if you are in a foreign country.

• Copy of the foreign passport
• Copy of the foreign citizenship certificate or copy of confirmation that the applicant will become the citizen of a foreign country
• Birth Certificate or latest extract of Birth Certificate for applicants born in Egypt, or Form A for applicants born in a foreign country ;(if any)

• Citizenship Certificate (if any)
• Identity card (if any)
• Passport-sized photograph of the applicant with a green background
• The applicants left and right thumbprints
• Egypt passport or other travel documents
• Marriage document (for female applicants below age 18)
• Proof of acquisition of citizenship in another country

The Ministry may ask for additional documents to be submitted.

All copies of supporting documents should be made on A4 paper
