Egypt - Obtain Radiation Premises Licence


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Obtain Radiation Premises Licence in person, the applicant has to approach the Egypt Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Contact link.
  2. Information related to the respective authority can be obtained from the “Office locations and contacts” section of this page.
  3. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
  4. Applicant has to enter all the information in the application form.
  5. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  6. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant form while submitting it at the office.
  7. Payment of appropriate fees should be made and that can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  8. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
  9. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the ERTU.
  10. If the verification is successful, the notification will be sent to the applicant.
  11. After getting the notification from concerned authorities, the applicant can visit the office to collect their License.
  12. If there is no information regarding the application, then, the applicant can visit the office to know status of the application.
  13. The Processing time for this procedure is 1 month.

  • Radiation Safety survey and quality assurance tests of the irradiating device or radioactive material
  • Enclose architectural drawing of premises.
  • Architectural drawing of premises
  • Citizens- Certified copy of valid National Identity Card
  • Non-citizens- Certified copy of valid Passport
  • Curriculum vitae and certified copies of academic certificates of the nominated radiation safety Officer and his/her Deputy.
  • Certificate of Incorporation.

Fees

  • Application fee –EGP. 100.
  • License fee –EGP. 300.




Validity

  • The license is valid for one (01) year from the date of issue unless revoked, cancelled, or suspended by the Authority.

Instructions

  • Contact Office: Radiation Protection Board
  • Resolution Criteria: Recommendations of an inspection report by radiation protection officers
  • On receiving an application for a licence, the Board will, on payment of the prescribed fee, issue to the applicant the appropriate licence.
  • An applicant may appeal against refusal to grant a licence within one month of a notice given to him to that effect.

  • Location of the Premises where the Radioactive Equipment/Sources/Generators will be used, stored, manufactured, etc.

  • Purpose(s) for which the radiation generator(s)/radioactive source(s) are to be used.
  • Name and Registration number of the Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Particulars of the radioactive sources used, stored, manufactured, or otherwise dealt with on the premises. (SUPPLEMENTARY form attached).
  • Particulars of the manufacture/supplier.
  • Particular of the vehicle to be used.
  • Business Registration Number.
  • Declaration by the applicant





Need for the Document

  • A Radiation premises license is required for any facilities that wish to engage in any activities that involve nuclear technology.
  • This is to ensure safe use of atomic energy and nuclear technology, hence the operators/users, public, and the environment is protected from the adverse effects of ionizing radiation.

The licence issued May:

  • Be amended at any time on written notice to the holder by the Board, if in its opinion, the amendment is necessary for the purposes of public safety.
  • Be suspended or revoked by the Board if the holder fails to comply with the conditions contained in the licence or laid down in the Radiation Protection Act or in any regulations made there under and where a licence is suspended or revoked the holder shall take such steps as may be recommended by the Board to ensure that no radiation hazards occur.
