Denmark - Apply for Danish Citizenship


Procedure

  • To apply for naturalization, you must fill up an application form, which can be obtained from the local police office in your area of residence or at the Immigration Service.
  • Submit the form along with all other required documents and pay the fee.

Eligibility

If you have a permanent residence permit and resides in Denmark, you are eligible to apply for a Danish citizenship and if you meet the following conditions:

  • Foreigner, 18 years old
  • You have been living permanently in Denmark over the past nine years
  • You have not committed any crime of a serious nature
  • You do not any outstanding debt
  • You can demonstrate Danish skills and knowledge of Danish society, etc.




Fees

You will be asked to pay DKK 1,000 when you submit your application.

Instructions

Citizens of the Nordic countries

  • You can be naturalized after two years of continuously residing in Denmark.


Citizens of other countries

  • You can be naturalized after nine years of continuously residing in Denmark.


Recognised refugees and stateless persons

  • You are eligible to apply for naturalization after eight years of continuously residing in Denmark.


Married to a Danish citizen

  • For those who are married to a Danish citizen, you are required to continuously reside in Denmark for six years for you to be eligible to apply for naturalization.
