Delaware - Obtain a Real Estate Appraiser License

Apply In Person

  1. To Obtain a Real Estate Appraiser License, the applicant has to approach the U.S. General Services Administration Link
  2. Real estate appraisers typically start at different license levels, including Trainee Appraiser, Licensed Residential Appraiser, Certified Residential Appraiser, and Certified General Appraiser. Each level has specific education and experience requirements.
  3. Complete the required education courses for your chosen license level. The number of hours and specific courses can vary. Courses must be approved by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB).
  4. Accumulate the required amount of appraisal experience under the supervision of a certified appraiser. The experience requirements differ depending on the license level you're pursuing.
  5. Pass the appropriate examination for your license level. The examination tests your knowledge of appraisal principles and practices.
  6. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  8. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  9. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  10. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  11. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  12. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  13. Then the application will be processed further.
  14. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  15. The applicant has to visit the office to collect the permit or through the mail.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 3 - 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

To be eligible to obtain an RLA license in the United States, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Complete an accredited real estate appraisal education program
  • Pass the state real estate appraiser exam
  • Have a certain number of hours of supervised experience
  • Have a clean criminal record
