Delaware - Apply for Teaching License


Procedure

  1. Register in DEEDS. You will need to enter your name, contact information, education information, experience.
  2. Complete an application to obtain a certificate.
  3. After completing the online application process, you must provide official documentation of all transcripts, certificates, and experience listed in the application to Delaware's Department of Education (the address is provided below).
  4. Make sure that you have submitted all the required documents listed on your application. The certification office will attempt to notify you of any missing documentation; however, given the volume of applications that the Department receives, it is your responsibility to provide the required documentation and monitor your application on DEEDS.
  5. Once all required documents has been received, the Department will evaluate your credentials in a timely manner as possible. Note: You may apply for employment while your licensure/certification is pending. (Districts and charter schools have access to your application information via DEEDS.)
  6. Once the evaluation process is complete, an email will be sent to you regarding your license/certificate(s) or an evaluation letter stating the requirements that you need to meet.

Eligibility

Basic requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors Degree
  • Student teaching on a transcript
  • Delaware passing scores on Core Academic Skills for Educators Math, Reading, Writing
  • Meet certificate requirements according to regulations - Know more

Note: Test scores are forwarded to the Department electronically upon your request (see testing).




Fees

Beginning January 1, 2016, a one-time non-refundable fee of $100 will be charged to educators applying for their first license in Delaware (Initial, Continuing, or Advanced). The applicant must also meet certification requirements prior to a license being issued. The fee will be retained by the state whether or not the transaction results in the issuance of a license and certificate.
