Apply In-Person:

1. The applicant will have to approach the nearest CFIA office, the office address can be found under the “Office locations and contacts” section of this page.
2. The applicant will have to submit an application at the office. Here is the link to the application form Application form
3. Download the application form and fill in all relevant details.
4. The applicant will have to submit the application form along with all required documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant will have to pay fees that will be specified by the authorities.
6. Once, submitted, the application will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.
7. The applicant will receive the certificate within 10 working days of the day of application.
8. The applicant will receive the certificate as long as the country they are exporting the products asks for the certificate.

• The applicant must be a registered plant exporter.

• For information on the fee to be paid the applicant can contact the nearest CFIA office.
• The applicant can find a list of fees for the different products that are being exported here Link

• The validity depends on the day the shipment is to be exported, and the certificate should be issued no more than 14 days prior to the date the shipment leaves the country.

• A phytosanitary certificate is issued by the plant protection organization of Canada, i.e. the exporting country to the plant protection organization of the importing country.

It shows that:

• The plants have been inspected according to appropriate procedures.
• The plants are considered free from quarantine pests.
• The plants conform with the current phytosanitary regulations of the importing country.
