Procedure
Apply via Agent
Apply In-Person:
- The applicant will need to visit the nearest Service BC counter, find the nearest here Link
- The applicant will not need to fill in an application form, they will need to provide details mentioned in the application form, the authorities will fill the application form.
- Complete the application form with relevant details.
- The applicant will have to make a fee payment.
- The applicant will need to carry original copies of documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant shall receive their certificate by mail within a few weeks from the submission of the application.
Apply Online
- Visit the Vital Statistics website, here is the Link.
- On the bottom right of the page, click on “Start”.
- Click on “Place Order”.
- Click “Birth service” and click on “Next”.
- Enter details such as name, DOB, Sex and so on and click on “Next”.
- Once all the details have been correctly entered, make the fee payment using the card.
- Click on “Submit” and submit the application.
- The applicant shall receive their certificate within a few weeks from the submission of the application.
Apply by Phone
- Download and fill in the application form, use the following Application Form.
- Complete the application form with relevant details.
- The applicant will have to make a fee payment.
- Call this phone number and further instructions will be given: Call the Vital Statistics Agency at 250 952-2681 in Victoria or 1 888 876-1633 elsewhere in B.C.
- The applicant shall receive their certificate by mail within a few weeks front the submission of the application.
Apply by Mail
- Download and fill in the application form, use the following Application Form.
- Attach original copies of ID documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant will have to send the completed application form to the following address: Vital Statistics Agency PO Box 9657 Stn Prov Govt Victoria, B.C. V8W 9P3.
- The applicant shall receive their certificate by mail within a few weeks from the submission of the application.

Eligibility
- The applicant should be applying for their own birth certificate.
- The applicant can be a parent of the person who is the subject of the certificate if that person is under 19.
- The applicant should be a custodial guardian if the parent is incapable, and the subject of the birth certificate is under 19.
- The applicants birth should have been registered in British Columbia.
Fees
- The applicant will have to pay a fee of 27$.
- If the applicant wants a certified true copy of their birth certificate they will have to pay a fee of 50$.
Validity
- A birth certificate is valid forever and does not need to be renewed.

Processing Time
- The applicant shall receive their certificate by mail within 8 to 12 weeks from the submission of the application.

Instructions
The applicant can order 2 types of birth certificates:
- The short-form copy of a birth certificate includes;
- Name of individual
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Sex
- Registration date
- Registration number, and
- Date issued.
- The long-form includes;
- Name of individual
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Sex
- Registration date
- Registration number
- Date issued, plus
- The names, and the province or country of birth, of the parents.
