For Full-time students
- To apply for a student loan online, the applicant will need a British Columbia Service card, use the following link to find out how to get a card Link
- The applicant will need to log in to their Student Aid BC account, use the following Link
- The applicant can log in using their BC service card, or by creating an account.
- If the applicant does not have an account follow these steps to create one:
- On the log in page, click on the “Register” option under “Option 2” which is log in with studenaid BC user ID.
- The applicant will be directed to another page where they will have to enter information such as their email, username, password and other personal information such as their name, DOB, sex and address.
- The applicant may also need to upload copies of documents.
- Click on the “I agree to the terms and conditions” option and click on “Submit”.
- The applicant will receive a verification link in their email ID, click on this link to verify the account.
- The applicant will need to give additional details such as their, DOB and social insurance number to verify the account.
- The applicant will be mailed an access code to the address on the ID that has been uploaded.
- The applicant can use this access code to log in to their account.
- Once logged in to the StudentAid BC account, the applicant will need to click on the “Apply for a loan” option.
- The applicant will be directed to the student loan welcome page.
- Click on the application for the student loan option depending on the year the applicant is starting their year of study.
- Read through the terms and conditions and click on “Apply”.
- The applicant will see a digital application fill this with all relevant details such as personal information, studies information and financial information.
- Once all the details have been entered click on the “Proceed to submit” option and submit the application.
- Enter the loan amount required and click on submit.
- The applicant will be directed to a declaration page, read through this carefully.
- Click on submit an application, and return to the welcome page.
- At the bottom of the welcome page, the applicant can track the status of their application.
- The applicant shall receive information about whether the loan has been granted within 45 days from the submission of the application.
- The applicant shall receive the money once the applicant’s school confirms that the applicant is enrolled in a course.
Apply In-Person:
For part-time students
- To apply for a student loan, the applicant will need to fill in an application form, find the application form under the “Required Documents” section of this page or find the application form depending on the year of study here (Scroll to the Part-time student section of the page) Application Form
- Fill in the application form with all relevant details and attach documents where required.
- Take the completed application form to the Student Aid office at the school the applicant is enrolled in.
- The office will enter details such as information about the course and forward the application to the relevant authorities.
- The applicant will have to wait for the application to get approved and shall receive funds once their course starts.

Eligibility
- The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or have permanent residency.
- The applicant must have a valid SIN.
- The applicant must be a resident of British Columbia.
- The applicant must show financial need.
- The applicant must show academic progress and achieve satisfactory scholastic standing in each period of post-secondary study.
- The applicant must not be in jail or have a warrant out for their arrest.
- Any loan the applicant has must show good standing.

Fees
The applicant does not need to pay fees to apply for a student loan.
Validity
- The student loan is valid for a period of 12 months after which the applicant will need to apply for a loan again if they continue studying.

Processing Time
- It takes about 45 days for the application to be processed.
- The applicant does not have access to the funds until the day their program starts.

- The applicant will need to apply for a student loan yearly depending on how long the duration of their course is.
- For part-time students, they must apply at least 4-6 weeks before their course starts.
