1. To change a Name (Deed Poll), the applicant has to approach the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Link
2. First, the applicant will need to hire a lawyer who specializes in name change cases. The applicant's lawyer will help the navigate the legal system and prepare the necessary documents.
3. The applicant has to fill out the form with the necessary details to change the name.
4. The applicant has to sign in the affidavit that he/she is not a convicted felon or has a current outstanding warrant.

   Note: Don’t sign the form until the applicant brings it to a notary public who will verify the identity and witness the applicant's signature.

5. Submit the completed form with the required documents to the court clerk.
6. Make sure that the applicant should have all the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
7. The fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority's request.
8. After filing the petition, the applicant will need to attend a hearing before a judge. During the hearing, the applicant will need to provide evidence to support his/her case for changing his/her name. This may include documents such as the applicant’s birth certificate, ID card, and other relevant records.
9. If the judge approves the petition, the applicant will be issued a court order that legally changes his/her name. This order must be registered with the Civil Registry Office (Cartório de Registro Civil) in his/her area.
10. Once the applicant has obtained the court order, the applicant will need to update the documents, such as his/her ID card, passport, driver's license, and other relevant records.
11. The applicant may need to provide the court order as proof of the name change when updating his/her documents.
12. This entire process can be completed within two to three months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
