Apply In Person:

1. Interested citizens and businesses are required to apply for the import license for seeds at the Department of Agribusiness Promotion Office (DABP) Office in which the applicant desires to carry on his business. District  DABP Contact Details
2. The applicant is issued the dried grains import permit to complete, copies of this form are not available online.
3. Upon obtaining the appropriate application form, the applicant should legibly complete the form, attach all relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit them for processing at the nearest district Department of Agribusiness Promotion Office.
4. Upon receipt of the application file, the licensing officer will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
5. where the licensing officer is satisfied that the applicant has provided him with all the required information, and documentation and certifies that the applicant is a fit and proper person, he shall approve the issue of the license.
6. The time frame for processing the license is within a day.
7. The Seed Import Licenses is valid for 30 days and it is renewable only on condition that one complies with the Import/Export Regulation Act.

Note: It should be noted for the consignment to be allowed entry, the importer is required to be in possession of a valid Phytosanitary certificate. please refer to Wikiprocedure website i.e Botswana - Apply for a phytosanitary certificate

• A certified copy of a valid National Identification card (Omang)
• An original and valid Hawker or Trading License
• A letter of Authorization to apply on behalf of the Company
• An original and valid Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Certificate
• A valid Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) Certificate
• Any other document that may be specified by the authorized officer

Quantities and type of locally procured products to be imported as follows;

• 30% of the maize grain and 70% of the maize meal, samp, maize rice or animal feed for poultry and livestock
• 50% of the sorghum grain and 70% of the sorghum meal, sorghum rice or any other processed sorghum product (animal feed).
• Border post of entry
• Country of origin of import
• Endorsement at the border post by Botswana Unified Revenue Services (BURS).

• Name of importing person/company
• The mailing address of importing person/company
• Name of exporting person/address
• Address of exporter/supplier in exporting country
• Point of entry produce
• The final destination of the produces
• Name of the product, quantity
• Physical Address, email, and phone of the applicant
• Signature of the applicant

• This permit enables Importers and Exporters to import/export the following products; grain-based animal feed for poultry and livestock; sorghum & sorghum products; maize & maize products; millet and millet products; wheat grain; pulses (castor beans, groundnuts); and sunflower seed.

• The Department of Agribusiness Promotion issue permits for the following products; Animal feed for poultry and livestock, Sorghum grain, Sorghum products, Maize grain, Maize products, Millet grain, Millet products, Wheat grain, Wheat products, Pulses (Castor beans, Groundnuts), and Sunflower seed.
