Botswana - Obtain Pharmacist License

Apply In-Person

  1. The application for a Pharmacist License shall be made to the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) office.BoMRA Contact Details &Office Location
  2. Applicants are required to collect and complete the Application for Registration of Premises Form, obtainable at the BoMRA Pharmaceutical Inspectorate Department or download via the BoMRA website, Application for Registration of Premises Form
  3. The application form should be completed in triplicate, attached to the supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, should be delivered in person to the BoMRA office, or alternatively sent by email to inspections@bomra.co.bw. Any omission of the required documents or information will render the application incomplete.
  4. Upon receipt of the application, the BoMRA officer will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, then the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified/ corrected.
  5. If the BoMRA officer is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application, he/she will register the application and the applicant will be advised to pay a non-refundable application fee.
  6. Pay the fees as per the authority's preferable mode of payment, and present the proof of payment to be verified by the BoMRA officer.
  7. The applicant will be issued with an acknowledgment slip or receive an acknowledgment email, that serves as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
  8. When all regulatory requirements for approval of the permit are satisfactorily met, the licensing officer shall prepare and issue the permit to the applicant, that shall be valid for a specific period and shall indicate the approval scope and limitation.
  9. Notice of the decision (Approval, Deferral, or Rejection) for the application will be communicated to the applicant in writing or by phone.
  10. Where the Authority has refused to grant a license to an applicant, the Authority shall notify the applicant, in writing and shall furnish the applicant with reasons for the refusal.
  11. While collecting the license, the applicant will be required to produce their identity document and approval letter to be validated by the BoMRA licensing officer and pay the prescribed license fee of BWP 750.00.
  12. The time frame for processing the application is within 2 weeks.

  • Completed Application for Registration of Premises Form
  • A covering letter summarizing the business prospects.
  • Certified copy of identity card or passport
  • Registration certificate of the pharmacist from Botswana Health Profession Council.
  • At least two references and a brief C.V. of the pharmacist.
  • A declaration letter for personal supervision of a pharmacist.
  • A sketch/plan of the premises.
  • Copy of a valid Blue card (BHPC card)
  • Private Practice license (For community pharmacy)
  • A copy of the payment receipt from BoMRA
  • Any other documents as may be deemed necessary or as may be prescribed by the Board

The validity of the license shall be valid for one (1) year from the date of issue, and the license shall remain valid for that specified period unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the authority.
