Apply in person:

1. Interested citizens and businesses are required to apply for the import license for plants at the District Crop Production (DCP) Office, Clients are advised to apply 2 weeks in advance District Crop Production (DCP) Office Contact Details
2. The applicant is issued the Import Licence (Permit) for Plants and plant products to complete, copies of this form are not available online.
3. Upon obtaining the appropriate application form, the applicant should legibly complete the form, attach all relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit them for processing either physically or send via email to MoAPlantPermits@gov.bw.
4. Upon receipt of the application file, the licensing officer will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
5. where the licensing officer is satisfied that the applicant has provided him with all the required information, documentation and certifies that the applicant is a fit and proper person, he shall approve the issue of the license on payment of the BWP 150.00 license fee by the applicant.
6. Payment for the fees can be paid either in cash at the District Crop Production Office or electronically (bank deposit). Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more information.
7. If paying electronically proof of payment is required before an import permit is issued.
8. The time frame for processing the license is within 14 working days. The import permit is valid for 6 months and can be used for multiple entries.

Note: It should be noted for the consignment to be allowed entry, the importer is required to be in possession of a valid Phytosanitary certificate. please refer to Wikiprocedure website i.e Botswana - Apply for a phytosanitary certificate

• Non-citizens need to have a valid Resident Permit.
• Registered company with Registrar of Companies for a Trading License
• Registered business (Companies/Hawkers/Vendors)
• Proof of payment of the permit fees.
• Any other supporting documentation as requested by the Authority.
