- The application to obtain an Export Permit for Scrap Metal shall be made to the Department of Industrial Affairs office which is under the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry. Ministry contact details.
- Any individual or company that wants to become a Dealer of Scrap metal and waste should first apply for registration as an exporter of ferrous and non-ferrous waste and scrap metal to the Department of Industrial Affairs (DIA) head office by collect and completing the Registration Form. - The applicant will be required to submit the following certified documents in addition to the duly completed registration form to the DIA head office. Any omission of these documents will render the registration process incomplete:
- Copy of Salvage yards license
- BURS Tax Clearance certificate
- I.D (Omang) /Passport of Managing Director
- Copies of Registration of Incorporation or Business Registration Certificate e) Copies of Shareholding certificates
- Upon receipt of the application file, the secretariat will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the file for processing and consideration. (Note the registration process is done once).
- The successful applicant will be registered as an exporter of scrap metal and will be issued with a Scrap dealer license. The dealer can then proceed with the application process for obtaining an Export Permit for Scrap Metal.

- The duly completed forms in all respects should be submitted to the DIA head office, upon receipt of the application file, the secretariat will verify if all the necessary information and documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the file for assessment and consideration.
- Applicants will be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the application.
- The DIA processing officer will consult whether foundries require the scrap, if yes permit application rejected.
- If approved the processing officer will draw up the Export Permit for Scrap Metal as directed by the minister and have it certified by a senior officer.
- The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and acknowledgment letter while collecting the Export permit at the DIA head office.
- The permit shall be subject to such terms and conditions as the minister/Authorized officer may deem fit to impose in each case, and such terms and conditions or requirements shall be endorsed on the permit.
Please note, that one application is for one permit and that the permit issued would be per one truckload or one container.

Need for the Document
- Scrap metal dealers are required to apply for an export permit should the need to export the scrap metal arises.
- The permit is issued to improve the accessibility of the scrap metal by local metal foundries/processors before it is exported as a way to facilitate domestic production.
