Apply In-Person

1. Botswana has 3 major telecom operating companies i.e., Mascom Wireless, Orange Botswana, and BTC Mobile that offer both pre-paid and post-paid Tariffs.
2. Applicants should visit the nearest telecom operators’ offices of their preferred mobile service provider; office branches and designated shops are located countrywide.
3. Collect the application form and fill it per the package plan that best suits you.
4. Submit the completed form attached to either one of the following original identification documents to be validated by the telecom operators’ agent and Pay the prescribed SIM card cost. Note; minors should be companied by a parent or guardian

   • Your National ID, Passport, Alien Card, Service Card
   • Minors - Original and copy of birth certificate/registration, plus a guardian/parents’ identification document.
   • Companies - Certified copy of Incorporation/registry

5. The telecom operators’ agent will register and activate the SIM card with the information, obtained from your identification document.
6. Once activated the telecom operators’ agent will return your identity document and issue you the sim card plus the original copy of the contract.

• Companies - Certified copy of Incorporation/registry; plus, any other additional document requested by the telecom operating company.

In a bid to crackdown on the hawking of SIM cards, the Communications Authority of Botswana introduced new measures on SIM card registration. This now mandates everyone registering for a SIM card to present the following documents:

• Your National ID, Passport, Alien Card, Service Card
• Minors - Original and copy of birth certificate/registration, plus a guardian/parents’ identification document.
• Companies - Certified copy of Incorporation/registry

The new directive targeted all current and future subscribers, including foreigners who just checked into the country.

• Full name of the applicant
• Nationality
• Date of birth/age/gender
• Identification document details
• Company registration details (if applicable)
• Declaration by the applicant

• Mobile phone networks allow devices containing a SIM card (phones, tablets, modems/ dongles, etc) to make calls, send and receive messages, browse the internet, stream audio, and video, and use apps on the move.
