Apply In-Person

1. The application for Professional Tourist Guides License or Permit, shall be made to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, which is under the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism (MENRCT) office, upon Call for applications submission opening; by the Ministry office through the public gazette or other varies advertising media. 2. Applicants are required to submit the application letter together with supporting documentation, in an enclosed manila envelope clearly specifying the category of their application, either in person or by surface mail to the specific Department of Wildlife and National Parks office in response to the circulated advertisement.
3. Upon receipt of the file, the receiving officer will then verify that all the necessary documentation and information have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before registering the application file for processing and consideration.
4. Successful candidates will be shortlisted and will be notified by the Department by phone and will be required to sit for a theory and practical examination, at an appointed venue, date and time as instructed by the department officer.
5. Candidates who pass the theory and practical exams will be registered and licensed by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Office.
6. The applicant will be required to produce a proof of identity document and pay the license fee as mentioned under the “Fees” section of this page while collecting the Professional Tourist Guides License or Permit.

Citizens:

• Certified copy of certificates (academic and professional)
• Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang)
• Must possess a valid driving license in Class B category
• Enclose Three (3) Professional references.

Non-Citizens:

• Certified copy of resident and work permit or waivers
• Brief summary of career with duties (Curriculum vitae)
• Certified copy of certificates (academic and professional)
• Certified copy of valid Passport
• Must possess a valid driving license in Class B category
• Valid Professional Guide license from the country where one has been operating (certified copy).
• Enclose three (3) Professional references; the third should be from the Professional Tourist Guides Association from the country where one has been operating.

Applicants should meet the following requirement to be eligible;
Citizens

• 18 years of age and above
• Holder of Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) or Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC)
• With one (1) year of related field experience
• Valid driver’s license

Non-Citizens

• 21 years of age and above
• Holder of minimum of secondary school education or equivalent to Cambridge Overseas Certificate (COSC)
• Valid Driver’s license

The following fee is charge;

Citizens

• Assistant Guide BWP 100.00
• Professional Guide BWP 200.00

Non-Citizens

• Professional Guide BWP 1500.00

• The license is valid for one year from the date of issue and renewable thereafter

• This licence issued to individuals who wish to be registered and licensed as Professional Guides in Botswana serving specifically within the Tourism industry. All guides working in Botswana must obtain this licence as mandated by the Wildlife Conservation and National Parks Acts of 1992.
