1. Prospective investors who wish to invest in the Cargo Freight and Logistics Sector shall register with the Botswana Investment & Trade Centre (BITC). BITC Contact details
2. The Prospective Investors are required to collect the application form for investment registration, obtainable at the BITC Investment Promotion Business Unit. Copies of this form are not available online.
3. Submit the completed form in all respect and attached it to the supporting documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” Section of this page, to the BITC Investment Promotion Business office. Any omission of the supporting documents will render the application process incomplete.
4. Applicants are issued an acknowledgment letter which serves as proof of submission of the application and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
5. The BITC Investment Promotion unit is responsible for appraising the proposal. During the assessment process the Investment Promotion unit shall be guided by the following principles:
   • Number and quality/level of employment created;
   • Potential for skills and technology transfer;
   • Utilization of local raw materials in the production process;
   • Potential for export and import substitution;
   • Potential to create backward and forward linkages;
   • Innovation and creativity;
   • Financial capability of the investor to deliver on the business plan;
   • Priority sector under the Economic Diversification Drive (EDD).
6. Inspection of the work premises is carried out to ascertain the existence of the company or project. BITC Investment Promotion unit notifies the investor of the scheduled date of the visit and the duration is taken to visit the premises is dependent on the availability of the investor. The investor feedback report forms are drawn and the investor is issued a copy.
7. The BITC unit responsible shall notify the applicant, in writing, of its decision within 14 days from the date the application was submitted, and if the proposal does not go through or is not approved, the BITC will state the reasons in such notice why the project is ineligible.
8. Approved investors will be registered with the BITC and issued with an investment registration certificate, upon presenting their identity document and the approval letter to be validated by the officer in charge at the BITC Investment Promotion unit.
9. After appraisal of the project, the BITC will facilitate the speedy conversion of the project into realized investment.

• BITC requests submission of a business plan or feasibility study which is then subjected to a detailed and transparent project appraisal/assessment.
• Submission of an application form/letter for investment registration with the BITC Investment Promotion Business Unit.
• Submission of a Business Plan or a Feasibility Study with detailed market analysis.
• Investment plan over a five-year period including expansion plans.
• The level of equity and loan financing and proof thereof.
• Projected income and expenditure statements and balance sheets over 5 years.
• Payback period, Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
• Loan amortization schedule for the bank loan (if any).
• Profile of Promoters.
• Shareholding Structure Form 2 (c) and 2 (d).
• Certificate of Company Incorporation.
• Project implementation plan.
• Notes on assumptions made in the business plan.
• Any other supporting documentation requested by the BITC Investment Promotion unit.
