Apply In-Person

1. To obtain an Export Health Certificate, the exporter should visit the Department of Veterinary Service (DVS) head office or the nearest District office to apply. (Please use this link for contact details) link
2. Express your interest to the receptionist/ secretariat at the front desk at the nearest Department of Veterinary service (DVS) offices and Collect the Export Health Certificate Application form, and fill out all required sections accurately. Forms are available at the Enquiries Desk at any of the DVS offices.
3. Submit the completed forms, attach to the supporting documents file {as listed under the “required document” section of this page} to the unit concerned attending officer.
4. The officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in the order, Pay the prescribe fees and obtain an acknowledgment slip; containing details of the application.
5. The DVS office will send an inspector for a pre-inspection of the premises and the consignments.
6. The inspector will inspect the product through all the processes that it may undergo and write a report based of the inspection results and leave after closing the boxes / bags or collect samples of the products and submit them for test analysis at the DVS laboratory and collect the Certificate of Analysis or Examination

   • NOTE: If your product did not meet the required standards, the inspector will advise you on areas to improve on.

7. The inspector will forward the inspection report or the Certificate of Analysis or Examination results to the relevant authorities for informed decision making weather to issue the Export Health Certificate or not.
8. If approved, the certificate will be processed, signed and stamped by the authorized official and made available for withdrawal by the applicant at the specific DVS office where the application was filed, against the acknowledgment slip and identification document.

Application by Proxy

• If you intend to submit your application through an agent, the agent must be a local representative duly recognized in writing to do so. All the names of the directors or partners of a company must be included in the application

Export Health Certificate for Livestock and Livestock Products

• Completed Application form
• Valid identity document/exporter card
• Veterinary import permit from destination country

NB: For hides and skins provide Dept. Animal Production Certificates.
Export Health Certificate for Laboratory Samples

• AUTHORITY letter from National Veterinary Laboratory (NVL)

• No person shall export out of Botswana any food, drug, cosmetic, other than a food, drug, device or chemical substance exported unless he/she is an holder of an export health certificate issued by the Department of Veterinary Service (DVS) office.
