- The application to obtain a Temporary Nursing License shall be made to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana(NMCB) office, which is under the Ministry of Health and Awareness. Ministry Contact and Map Location Details
- Applicants shall make the application in writing, using a prescribed Registration form, obtainable at the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana(NMCB) office. Copies of these forms are not available online.
- Submit the completed application form, attached to the relevant supporting documentation as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page, to the NMCB registrar's office for consideration. Any omission of the required documents and information will render the application incomplete.
- Upon receipt of the application, the NMCB registrar will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified.
- If the registrar, is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the application for the license, the application is registered for processing and consideration.
- The applicant will obtain an acknowledgment slip as proof of submission of the application, and for inquiry referencing if the need arises.
- The registrar may request additional information relevant to the application. In such a case, the information must be submitted within the stipulated time from the date of notification. Where the applicant fails to submit the required information, the registrar shall reject the application.
- After the successful screening of the submitted documents, the applicant will be contacted by the NMCB office and will be required to take a written test and an interview, two weeks after submitting their application.
- Only candidates that pass the exams will be registered with the NMCB, and issued with the practice License, upon paying the applicable fees and producing their identification document to be validated by the registrar’s office.
Required Documents
- Application letter addressed to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana(NMCB) Registrar.
- Certified copy of passport details (non-citizens) or Omang (citizens)
- Four passport size photographs [there has to be an endorsement for true likeness]
- Certified evidence of change of name or surname [if applicable].
- Certified copy of the certificate of qualifications
- Certified copy of evidence of internship (for graduates who are registering for the first time) or transcript
- Current curriculum vitae
- Certified copy of Current Practicing License and Registration Certificate.
- Original of certificate of good standing from previous registration body (not more than 6 months)
- Two recent professional references (Originals in headed paper or letterhead, not more than 6 months.).
- Proof of payment of the applicable fees.
- Notes: All documents must be in English, every document must be certified by the Commissioner of Oath, not the Police.

Eligibility
Health professionals i.e. nurses and midwives, who are not registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana (NMCB) are eligible to apply.

Validity
The validity of the license shall be mentioned on the license and it shall remain valid for that specified period; unless suspended, cancelled, or revoked by the NMCB.

Need for the Document
- A Nurse or Midwife Registration and practice Certificate is a document that proves that the holder has been registered and certified by theNursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana (NMCB).
- Registering as a Nurse or Midwife shows peers, employers, and clients that one has demonstrated a commitment to professional standards and code of professional ethics, and to developing and enhancing competence.
- It is illegal to employ a Nurse or Midwife not registered with NMCB or who does not have a valid practicing certificate as stipulated by section 10 (1) and section 11 (3) of the Nurses and Midwives ACT. Cap 61:03.
