IN BOTSWANA
- To apply for Resident Permit the applicant should visit the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Department of Immigration and Citizenship head office, nearest Regional or District Immigration Offices {see address details below}.
- Applicants are required to complete the application form for Residence Permit,forms are available at the Enquiries Desk at any of the immigration office or directly download it via this link;Link
- Submit the completed forms, attach to the relevant supporting document file {as listed under the required document section below} to the department concerned attending officer.
- The officer will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in order you will be required to pay the application fee at the cash counter.
- It is only after the deposit of the complete file and the payment of the required fee, that the application file will be registered and recorded and applicants will be issued with an acknowledgment letter containing details of their application.
- The completed application file will then be forwarded to an authorized officer (via designated channels) at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship office in Botswana for evaluation, processing, and recommendation, which is within one month.
- Applicants will be notified of the outcome as per preferred mode of notification as requested for during the initial application process.
- If application is successful, applicant should visit the office where the application was filed with the acknowledgment letter/approval letter and passport and present them to be validated by the immigration officer who will then affix a residence permit sticker will be stamped in your passport.
- If unsuccessful, an applicant can appeal the outcome and or leave the country
ABROAD APPLICATION
- Applicants outside Botswana should apply to the Botswana High Commission or Embassy (if there is one resident) in the country from which they are applying. In the case where there is no Botswana High Commission or Embassy in that country, then the application for a residence permit should be sent to:

- Upon receipt of the completed application file, it will be forwarded to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship office in Botswana, where the application is reviewed and consideration made, based on the information and documents that have been provided and if complying; the application will be approved.
- The applicant will be notified of the outcome of the application via letter or mail and given further instruction on how to collect the permit.

- Two recent coloured passport size photos
- Certified copy of birth certificate. If the applicant is unable to provide such proof of birth, a statement setting out the reasons must be attached
- Certified copy of marriage certificate for each applicant if applicable
- A medical report of full physical examination

- Supporter’s particulars- Copy of Omang or Residence Permit, Work Permit and letter of support
- Letter of consent from the parent if supporter is not a biological parent
- If legally separated, provide a copy of the court order certified as being correct by an official of the court which made it
- Certified copy of adoption certificate where applicable

Need for the Document
- A Residence Permit is a government official document that allows its holder to stay in a country of which he or she is not a citizen for a certain duration and renewable thereafter.
- All non-citizens who wish to stay in Botswana should apply for a residence permit to allow them to live in the country. Persons who are above 18 are required to apply separately if they wish to stay in Botswana and their applications should be supported by the person(s) upon whom they will depend on while in Botswana.
