Botswana - Apply for Import Permit


Procedure

Apply In-Person:

  1. One should contact and Visit the Department of International Trade or any Department for Cooperative Development offices near you for consultation, and request for assistance from the authorized officer on how to apply for the permit.
  2. Accurately fill out the application form, which can be obtain from the any of the above offices or click the link below to download Assets
  3. Attach all required documents copies to the form, enclosed with unstamped additional envelope, to be used for issuing permits.
  4. Pay the permit processing fee
  5. If the authorized officer is satisfied that you have complied with the all conditions as set for the application of the permit he or she will issue you with the permit
  6. You will also be issued with a Permanent reference number, which is given to each importer when the first application is made. The reference number is to be used in future import permit application.

  • Valid copies of Trade License/Hawkers’ License/manufacturing license (indicating that applicant is licensed to trade in the commodity imported
  • Identification documents
  • Any other document that may be specified by the authorized officer

Instructions

  • Fill in an Import Permit Application Form. Attach a copy trading license (for registered business or company); or a copy of a hawker’s/ street vendor licence and a copy of identity document (for private traders or individuals).
  • In case of importation of goods which are restricted under any other laws of Botswana e.g. arms and ammunition, applications must be accompanied by a valid permit issued under the law concerned.

  • Import permit is a document that allows importation of goods into the country for trading purposes, as per Control of Goods, Prices and Other Charges Act Chapter 43:08.
