Apply In-Person

1. You should contact the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Department of Wildlife and National Parks near you for more information on how to file the application.
2. Accurately fill in the application form, (Commercial Fishing Licence Application Form A) which can be obtained from the above offices.
3. Submit the completed form along with the required supporting documentation (as listed below) for verification, upon which an assessment of your will be carried out by the department and a report will be issued.
4. If the authorized officers satisfied that you have complied with all the requirements as set for the application of the license you will be notified and the permit will be issued to you by surface mail.
   
   

Note : The period of time during which fish may be caught shall be the period beginning on 1st March and ending on 31st December every year.

This service is open to Citizens who are 18 years of age and above

The licence cost BWP200.00 for three consecutive seasons.

The license is valid for 3 years

Open season

1. Fish may be caught between 1st March and ending on 31st December every year.
2. Any person who catches fish during the period beginning on 1st January and ending on 29th February shall be guilty of an offence and liable,
   1. In the case of a first conviction, to a fine not exceeding P200, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months,
   2. in the case of a second or subsequent conviction to a fine not exceeding P500, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or to both.

The Commercial Fishing Licence is granted by the department to those who wish to fish for profit and permission to use gillnet in Botswana.
